Would anyone like to do Nanowrifa again this year? With September quickly approaching, I thought I'd ask.

Give a yea or nay.

I hope you all had fun participating in Nanowrifa! But winter is upon us, and that means time is up.

I can keep the comm open if you'd like, or shut it down until next year (I think this is worth another go in 2006, what about you?). Your choice.

I really would like to see people keep working on their projects, and *I* am totally willing to read and review any further exerpts anyone posts here or in their own journals.

It was a pleasure writing with you, and best of luck in your creative endevours in the next year!

Question for the group

Since November is National Novel Writing Month, and we're all obviously doing something a little different, does anyone here want to do anything special (I dunno...a word drive or something?) for November or just treat it like any other month?

Just thought I'd ask.

Also, it's been very quiet here. I hope we're all still chipping away at our novels, and if you're stuck, well, this is the place to go so feel free to ask for help!

First of all, let me just say that WebTV sucks. Big Time.

Going on, I have a quick question because I'm using adjectives and plurals and getting stuck.

Poll #582642 Elves, Elvish, and all things Elven

So, which adjective is it:

Something else (comment please and tell me)

Exerpt I could use help on

All right, I need some serious help with this bit of exposition. It's lengthy and I'd like to chop it down (eventually), but more than that I need you guys to tell me simple things. Like where it gets boring, repetitive, vague, uninteresting, where it confuses you. Nothing fancy. Just tell me where it's good and where it's bad - in your opinion.

It's a bit lengthy, I'll warn you now. And of course, it's filtered and cut tagged. Don't worry. Everyone on this comm is on filter, and if you're not, just send up a flare and I'll add you.

Novel: Revenant Blues
Chapter: Chapter Two - Waking Up After the Fact
Summary: After an accident in an alley in which one of our protagonists, Cady, has been bitten by a vampire named The Wolf, she wakes up and has to have the entire world explained to her by our other protagonists.
Word Count: 7309

Characterization, Plotting and Outlining

So, after spending some time on IM with sage_theory, I have decided to go with Idea #1. This is the one that has been beating around in my head for the longest (it's been my baby since junior high school), and the one that has the most flesh to it.

What I did for the last few daysCollapse )

Okay, I'm sure I was going to say something else on this, but my train of thought got derailed, so I'll leave it at that question for now.

I figured since fikgirl and k_kijo are doing intro's, I should do one.

My name is Meg (either sage_theory or fiction_theory - one's for fannish things and one's for deeply shaming original crap fic).

I'm a college student (English major - of course!) hoping to graduate soonish. Soonish being relative because my school (University of North Florida or UNF) has the secret name amongst it's students of: U Never Finish. So...

I've been writing since I can properly remember. I've always wanted to be a writer and always focused my energies to that end. I do other things. Sometimes.

Usually I like to stay towards speculative fiction - but I've been known to write mainstream or highly incompetent spy stories when the mood strikes. This project, though, I'm gonna try something sorta supernatural and more on the fantasy side of things. Not my usual riff, but it never hurts to stretch.

It is my ultimate dream to become published (and of course, consequently rich and famous and loved by millions of adoring readers and critics alike).

I'm living in Florida, but I'm from Tennessee.

I've done Nanowrimo four times and failed all four times. I did Nanowrisu with two other people over the summer and actually got to the 50,000 mark, but the project remains unfinished. I hope this time I get 50,000 words *and* something that's remotely coherent.

I'll offer comments whenever I can and I really am looking forward to seeing how other people do. I feel better knowing there are others around me doing the same thing, go through the same anxieties.

- Meg

Icon Offerings

Just a quick note to say that I whipped up some NaNoWriFa icons, in case anyone wanted a special icon for this. (And in case sage_theory wanted to use one for the community.) They are mostly alike only with font changes and layout changes, but if you're interested, ( You can find them behind the fake cut )

Intro post....

*waves shyly* Hey, there. I'm a 40-something stay-at-home mom, somewhat obsessed with all things Whedon--but I come at the mythos with a strongly Christian perspective. Therefore, my project (continued from last year's NaNoWriMo) is a Christian vampire horror novel. I realize that the market for such is niche-r than niche (as in, there's probably about four people on the entire planet interested in reading such a thing), so I may just say the heck with it and post excerpts here. I'm pretty sure that not a publisher in the world would want to touch this thing, so I'm fairly comfortable doing so, although my (published) Mom has told me that most publishers want first e-publishing rights. So far, it's got about 6500 words, scribbled last year for NaNoWriMo.

The good news is, I just read it again and I still like what I have. The bad news? It's only about 10% done, word-count-wise, and I'm not sure I have enough plot in my head for a full novel. Eep!

While I'm Still Trying to Get IT Together

Maybe we should do intros?

Yeah, ok, so I'll start.

The name is Michele, the handle is Fikgirl (and some places on the 'net you will see me as CheleSedai).

I'm a 30-something mother of one 3 year old little gal, and I've been an aspiring novelist since I learned how to write stories. Mostly, I practice my art and skill with writing (or in the case of recently not writing) fan fiction. Yes, I'm a big honkin' fan girl. And proud of it.

My genre is fantasy. High fantasy stuff: magic, sorcerers, elves, dragons, yadda yadda yadda. (And one modern science fiction sort of story that sort of grew out of a fanfic fusion.)

I've got about three story ideas that I need to flesh out and/or work on. (I also have two fan fic series that I'm woefully behind on as well).

I have no idea what I'm doing here except to force myself to write the 500 words per day. And by midnight tonight, I will officially be behind by 1000 words because I still haven't a clue what I'm going to work on.

And that's my sordid tale.
